“To express my sexual visions, thoughts and practices I transform everyday life objects mostly found on the streets. I feel as though these objects found me and wanted to be changed into sexual entities to push their boundaries and break their usefulness by giving them a new status. In the making, I am not only restoring and modifying these objects, but I am appropriating them. Each piece of my work corresponds to a particular moment in my sex life.”
“The deep buttoning process is a useful method to embellish and comfort function. It can be easily defined on a piece of furniture for a dramatic visual and sensual effect. I had the chance to achieve a 4 months internship in Kingston Traditional Upholstery Putney while studying final year at CSM, and had the privilege to work besides professionals and having an access to their workshops. I learned how to work with materials (wood, steal, leather, fabric, foam, etc.) and the magnificent processes of restoration and creation of furniture including the specific method of deep buttoning.”
“This technique applied to my work creates an intriguing feeling related to the viewer and perception of the work : how one interacts with the piece (attraction/repulsion), while questioning oneself on the untouchable status of the piece and many different ways to contemplate the work closer or step back for a better vision. The buttoning method itself composes an interesting pictorial result as it restructures/censors the image printed on the fabric and inflates the fabric or material used from the foam underneath.”
